This entry is actually focusing on the sub topic Systems Design (Chapter 12: MIS subject), which is one of the items in SDLC process…

SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT
IS Development needs 2 things to complete the problem
solving process, which is
- Systems Approach – used ST method
- Systems Thinking (ST)

Systems
Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
The systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a conceptual
model used in project management that describes the stages involved in an
information system development project, from an initial feasibility study
through maintenance of the completed application.

After developing, the company needs to find out either they
need to replace or improve or change into the new systems.
1) Feasibility study produced feasibility
report
2) System analysis produced functional
requirement
3) Systems design (the
most expensive approach)
SYSTEMS DESIGN
Systems design is the process of
defining the architecture, components, modules, interfaces, and data for a
system to satisfy specified requirements. Systems design could be seen as the
application of systems theory to product development. There is some overlap
with the disciplines of systems analysis, systems architecture and systems
engineering. (Wikipedia)
Systems design focuses on three areas:

Systems design can be viewed as the design of user interfaces, data, and processes. |
Prototyping
During the design phase, the
development process frequently takes the form of, or includes, a prototyping approach. Prototyping is the
rapid development and testing of working models, or prototypes , of new applications
in an interactive, iterative process that can be used by both IS specialist and
business professional.

User Interface Design
The user interface design
activities focuses on supporting the interactions between end users and their
computer-based application.

Systems Specifications
Systems Specifications formalize the
design of an application’s user
interface method and product, database structures, and processing and control
procedures. Therefore, systems designers will frequently develop hardware,
software, network, data, and personal specifications for a proposed system.
